J.Baxter McFarlin

"I like to do art that makes people smile or at least provokes thought. My art is  for people who like art for conversation or those who want something unusual and different."

J. Baxter McFarlin was born in 1959 in Savannah, Georgia. Growing up in an Air Force family and on his own, he has lived in seven states and has traveled to thirty-one. Today he is still a southern-native living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Gifted with a innate creative ability and sharp perception, J. Baxter McFarlins’ style is a mixture of humor, fantasy, primitivism, surrealism and the avant-garde. McFarlin works with a wide variety of mediums which include: acrylics, charcoals, pen and ink, pastels, colored art pencils, and sculpture. Throughout his life he has been an observer and a first hand participant of the fine arts.

In 2001 J. Baxter McFarlin won first place in a art show sponsored by Associated Artists of Winston-Salem, NC. Since his time living in North Carolina, he has been featured on local television and newspapers. J. Baxter is an animal lover and activist. Some of his interests include; gardening, fishing, anthropology, art history and culture. J. Baxter McFarlin has a lovely daughter Monica and adorable grandson, Casimir living in Colorado.

My favorite mediums: The most preferred by me is acrylics.. I also do watercolor. charcoal, pastels, alkyds, graphite, paper maché, ceramics and colored pencils.

My favorite subject matter. Animals, children, women, surrealism, primitivism, nature, humor,whimsical,and can also do religious. I am also open to commissioned work. Please see my contact page.
